Dequantes Devontay Lamar was born Quan on October 4, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia. He went to Ronald McNair Sr. High School and liked studying books and writing creatively. His goal was to play baseball professionally, so he played on the high school team all four years. In the end, Fort Valley State University offered him a scholarship to play baseball, but he turned it down because he wanted to focus on other things.
Quan started to rap and get a job at the airport. Quandary Quan lost his job and got involved in shady activities. He ended up going to jail for 15 months. Quan said, “After I got out of jail, I started to take music more seriously, and that’s when my dream came true.”
